For a moment, there was speculation where Frank Thomas would end up. Thomas was close to signing with the A’s when a mystery team jumped in, giving Thomas an option, according to Yahoo! Sports. But it is now official, Thomas is an Athletic. This puts Mike Sweeney out of a job and ends speculation that the A’s will sign Barry Bonds.

Thomas is off to a slow start, leading to speculation that the future Hall-of-Famer is past his prime and too far up in years. But Thomas has always been a slow starter. For example, even in his MVP year of 1993, he batted only .253 in April. That’s not to say he’ll be getting any MVP votes this year, but don’t count him out entirely. In AL-only leagues, he could make a decent utility player or DH.
